This morning, the Ebola procedure was set into motion for an aid worker returning from a humanitarian mission in Guinea. The aid worker developed a fever today and immediately contacted his aid organisation, as the procedure instructs. In consultation with the health authorities, the aid worker was admitted to the University Hospital of Leuven, where he was isolated for further examination and tested for malaria and Ebola.

The Ebola test was performed by the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp. The test results were negative. As a precaution, the patient is kept in isolation until Monday. A new test will be performed on Monday if necessary, and if the result is once again negative, the patient can leave the isolation room.
